PRINTED
BASEMENT

Automated concrete construction below ground

In Weißenhorn, a basement level for a multi-family residential building was produced directly on site using mobile 3D concrete printing for the first time worldwide.

The project extends the application range of mobile 3D concrete printing to below-ground structures. In addition to robotic wall production, specially adapted waterproof concrete, building waterproofing and mobile energy supply were integrated into the overall process.

PROJECT AT A GLANCE
Weißenhorn, Germany · Basement for multi-family housing · mobile 3D concrete printing world premiere · C25/30 waterproof concrete · approx. 60-minute setup time

3D Printed basement

The project used C25/30 waterproof ready-mix concrete developed for mobile 3D printing by Heidelberg Materials.

The printed structure was complemented by a waterproofing system from Remmers, applied using INOTEC equipment, while a mobile energy storage system from Liebherr supplied power to the construction site and the printer.

From Printed Walls to an Integrated Building System

Basement construction creates different requirements from conventional above-ground wall production. Concrete performance, waterproofing, energy supply and adjacent construction processes all need to function as one system.

Weißenhorn therefore represents an important development step: the technology is expanding beyond automated wall production toward increasingly integrated construction systems and more demanding building applications.
