Robotic wall production for commercial construction

In Detmold, a new office building with an attached warehouse is being constructed using mobile 3D concrete printing for significant parts of its wall structure.

Around 890 m² of wall surface and approximately 160 m³ of concrete are produced robotically directly on site. The project demonstrates automated wall production for a building type where functionality, economics and reliable execution are key.

Different structural requirements can be implemented directly through the printing process. In Detmold, walls with thicknesses of both 24 cm and 17.5 cm are being produced within the same project.

The printing process is integrated into the conventional construction sequence. At the same time, Emsland Transportbeton and MC-Bauchemie adapt the ready-mix concrete to ensure consistent pumpability, material stability and rapid strength development.

A Concrete Use Case for Robotic Commercial Construction

Detmold demonstrates how automated wall production can be integrated into a regular commercial construction project.

Digital preparation, machine operation, ready-mix concrete production and conventional construction execution work together within one coordinated process.

Office, warehouse and similar commercial buildings are particularly suited to robotic construction due to their large wall areas, functional geometries and repetitive structures – creating strong conditions for standardized digital production.
